Dear Krip-Hop Nation’s Community,
Emmitt Thrower and I want to thank you once again for supporting our 2014 film documentary, Where Is Hope: Police Brutality Against People With Disabilities! It has been two years since the film came out and we want to make it clear once again that the film was a work of love between two Black men with disabilities living on retirement and SSI who saw a need and put our love of art, music, activism and our community together to produce a tool for our community. From the beginning Where Is Hope was planned to be a tool for our community not something to make money on or to expose and do harm to our community especially the artists and activists in the film! We made it clear our mission of the film to organizations and artists/activists who were filmed and supported us from the beginning.
In the two years since the film came out, Emmitt & I have spent our own money to put on events in the Bay area and back East. The film has been shown in colleges and universities and even in Japan. The film also highlights Hip-Hop artists with disabilities who all agreed to have their music in the film and provided music videos for our workshops. The film is also a companion of a 2012 Krip-Hop Nation’s mixtape, Police Brutality Profiling Mixtape, on the same topic, police brutality against people with disabilities where over twenty Hip-Hop artists with disabilities in the US, UK and Spain gave Krip-Hop Nation permission to put their songs on this CD. We had nothing but support at the time making this film and CD from our community and artists verbally and on paper.
As Emmitt and I go on to our own separate projects, we want to say thanks for your support in helping us to create a tool that we hope our community will continue to use in the fight for awareness and justice for all persons with disabilities who have experience brutality from police.
